Directions to ExPG: We are conveniently located just off the Capital Beltway (495) and Landover Road (202) in Largo, MD. We are within easy access from I-95, Route 50, Route 301 and the Baltimore-Washington Parkway. From the Beltway, take exit 17A toward Upper Marlboro. Turn right at light onto McCormick Drive. Immediate right onto Basil Court. We are located on the first floor in the Inglewood Centre building (9200 Basil Court) on the right.

Each year the University of Maryland welcomes more than 70,000 first-time visitors at our Visitor Center, located in Turner Hall. Maryland Milestones, a brand established in 2012 by Anacostia Trails Heritage Area Inc., highlights the first and unique moments which have occurred (or are occurring) in the Maryland Certified Anacostia Trails Heritage Area. This program brings information about these “milestones” to the public and makes connections between the history, culture, and nature of the region. Additionally, the Maryland Milestones brand emphasizes the importance travel, trade, and communication have played in the region – through turnpikes, highways, parkways, aviation, streetcars, telegraphs, and train travel. This program involves updating signage, creating information kiosks, building a heritage center, and development of interpretive heritage routes.

The visitor center demonstrates Goddard’s innovative and exciting work in Earth science, astrophysics, heliophysics, planetary science, engineering, communication and technology development. Browse the unique, informative exhibits and learn about climate change, climb inside a Gemini capsule model, encourage a child to dream as he or she pulls on our kid-sized space suit, or participate in one of the monthly model rocket launches.

Built in 1929, the Bowie Building Association now contains local area visitor information, hands on activities for children, and exhibits on the history of Old Bowie and its past as a close-knit local railroad community. The Welcome Center hosts a number of family-oriented events over the year, including “Kids Kaboose” for youngsters and the annual Trainspotting day each November. Admission is free; donations are welcomed.

Located at the Tanger Outlets/National Harbor, adjacent to Shopper Services, the Visitors Center features Experience Salubria, a curated collective of historic facts that establishes Southern Prince George’s County as the front door to Maryland’s epic heritage. The collective consists of four destination points: two commemorative bronze plaques; the Salubria Memorial Garden; and, the Potomac River Heritage Visitors Center. Each destination point offers a unique way to engage, reflect, and celebrate history and diverse cultures in Prince George’s County. The design elements and visual markers guide visitors from pre-Civil War footprints to contemporary realities.


Maryland Welcome Centers

Welcome Centers are positioned throughout the state on major highways. They are wonderful resources and provide various services including tourist and directional assistance, travel brochures, a respite from driving, rest rooms, and vending machines. Just outside of Prince George’s County, there are two Welcome Centers located off Interstate 95 (outside of Laurel, MD) between Baltimore and Washington. The Southbound site serves traffic heading towards Washington, DC and points south. The Northbound site serves traffic heading toward the Baltimore/Annapolis area and points north.
